Mariacarla Boscono

September 20, 2004

Happy Birthday, Mariacarla! The Italian 'it' girl is celebrating her 24th birthday today and we would like to take this chance to wish Mariacarla all the best for her career and for her future as well. What can I say? Stay beautiful!

For the birthday's update, I guess nothing is better at the moment than featuring Mariacarla's latest campaign, Versace. Without a doubt, this fall 2004 campaign is one of Mariacarla's biggest achievements as a model. The advertisements are widely available in the magazines, so it's about time for me to show them here.

The 1st image features from left to right Hana Soukupova, Caroline Trentini, Elise Crombez and of course Mariacarla Boscono. The 2nd image features the same line-up in a slightly different position, with the addition of Caroline Winberg. The photographer is Steven Meisel. Many thanks to Gustavo for the scans.

At last the chance has come to feature the Vogue Italia April 2004 editorial. It turned out that there are not one but two Mariacarla editorials inside this issue: "Or Short Or Small Or Tiny" (3 photos by Paolo Roversi) and "Domestic Goddess" (5 photos by Miles Aldridge). Thanks to Maya who scanned the pics for me. These scans are quite raw in term of quality so if you can provide the more polished scans of the two eds, then please drop me an e-mail. I'm also looking for the scans of Mariacarla's Vogue Italia March 2004 editorial, which was the last ed shot by Helmut Newton before he died. Anyone can help me on that one, please?

Maya also sent me three more pics. The first one is taken from Elle Italia August 2003. This Versus backstage pic is a part of "Retroscena" which is an editorial consisting of various fall-winter 2003/2004 backstage. The attached text is not about Mariacarla at all, though. It is about the Versace campaign at that time, which featured 'that horrible singer' (yikes).

The other two is a double page feature on Mariacarla, taken from Flair October 2004. MCB the 'fotoreporter'? Sounds intriguing, eh? Sadly I can't speak/read Italian which means that I can not even understand what this article is all about :( Hmm, maybe you can do a translation for me? I really need your assistance in this case so do contact me if you can translate the whole "Vita Da Top" article (including all the captions!) from Italian to English. The translation will be featured here, by the way.

On May 18 I wrote that the January 2004 issue of Vogue Deutsch came with a spring-summer 2004 runway supplement featuring Mariacarla on the cover. This is the cover I talked about. I don't know who scanned this, but thanks to Sara who forwarded the scan to me. The picture was shot by Roxanne Lowit at the Emilio Pucci backstage. Roxanne also photographed Mariacarla's editorial on the 1st issue of Vanity Fair Italia. This 14 pages editorial is still missing from my website. Please let me know if you can scan the ed for the site. Thanks in advance.

The New York spring 2005 fashion week was completed a couple days ago. This is Mariacarla's one and only appearance on NYFW, for designer Anna Sui (September 13, 2004). As you can see, Mariacarla has changed her hair color and she looks fresh with this new look. I know, maybe you're wondering why there was only one show, and where was Mariacarla all this time... well, she was back to her homeland! Read on to learn more about this.

Last Saturday, September 11, Mariacarla was in Italy for the annual San Remo Fashion - Stelle della Moda. This is one important event in the country, and it was also broadcasted live on television. During this gala Mariacarla catwalked for Versace (yep, this one-off show was her first show in six months) and on top of that, she received the prestigious San Remo 2004 model of the year award! Congratulations.

Despite Mariacarla's absence on most New York shows, we spotted something interesting at DKNY show (September 12, 2004). Donna Karan didn't use real models for her show but instead she used the statues of those well-known models! Some familiar faces can be seen on those statues, especially this mannequin... Mariacarla, is that you? :)

I have added three STYLE.com pages for Milan and Paris fall-winter 2004/2005 and New York spring-summer 2005 (more Anna Sui pics) and a party picture too. This was one of fall 2004 New York Fashion Week parties. Behnaz Sarafpour, Mariacarla Boscono and designer Rosemary Rodriguez at the Paco Rabanne "Golden Age" party on February 8, 2004. Photo courtesy of Patrick McMullan. Wow, I never realized just how tall Mariacarla is until I saw this pic!

This is pretty much a similar update to the last one, except that now we are moving forward to the fall-winter 2004/2005 page. Here are more of those missing Parisienne runways: 5 photos from Celine, 3 photos from Christian Dior, 9 photos from Givenchy, 4 photos from Hermès, 8 photos from Hussein Chalayan, 2 photos from Martine Sitbon, 6 photos from Stella McCartney and 9 photos from Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. These shows are some of Mariacarla's last runway appearances from six months ago, as a matter of fact.

If you look at the runway pages I made for the past few seasons (fall-winter 2003/2004, spring-summer 2004, fall-winter 2004/2005) then you'll see that there are plenty of missing shows on the Paris sections. Today I can finally add some of those shows to the site. As shown below, we have 5 photos from Celine, 3 photos from Christian Dior, 8 photos from Givenchy, 6 photos from Hussein Chalayan, 4 photos from Jean Paul Gaultier and 2 photos from John Galliano. They all belong to the spring-summer 2004 page.

In the next few days I will update the site with a lot of photos from the past fashion weeks. We're going to start from the spring-summer 2003 fashion week in Milan, with three Paris shows added. All of the shows below are previously featured on the site, but these photos can still be considered as new because I haven't featured them before. They're all still worth viewing of course, especially those lovely photos from the Alessandro Dell'Acqua show.

Alessandro Dell'Acqua

Antonio Berardi

Blumarine

Dolce & Gabbana

Max Mara

Gucci

Roberto Cavalli

Celine

Stella McCartney

We've seen some backstage photos from the Chanel shows on the previous update. Now, let's go to the runways of those shows. There are 5 photos from spring 2004 pret-a-porter show, 5 photos from spring 2004 haute couture show and 4 photos from fall 2004 pret-a-porter show. None of them have been featured here before.

For those who don't remember... the Mariacarla site has turned THREE years old since one week ago, on September 2 to be precise. Well I don't have anything special to celebrate that, but how about these four photos from the backstage of Marc by Marc Jacobs fall 2004 show? She's so cuuuuuute!!!

The remaining photos are taken from two different spring 2004 shows of Chanel: 2 pics from the haute couture show (Mariacarla is holding her mobile phone on one of these pics) and 2 pics from the pret-a-porter show. I'm sure you notice the difference.

I don't have anything else to add, but I have to remind you that the spring 2005 fashion week in New York has just begun today. Ciao!

For a quick update... here are Mariacarla's photos from the new Neiman Marcus catalogue.

July 24, 2004

It's Ardian here. My Mariacarla site was not updated lately because nowadays I spent most of my time without the internet. I hope you understand. Well, I do have some Mariacarla eds/ads but these are not scanned yet... cos I don't have my own scanner yet! Please be patient, ok? And if you can help me with the scans that haven't been featured here yet, simply e-mail me. Today I just want to feature some interviews that I think are too good to be missed.

Up first is a video of Mariacarla being interviewed by TG5 (dated May 14, 2002). Click on the image to watch the video, or here. I haven't checked whether the link is working or not, but I hope it works. The short text from the source page reads: Parla italiano la nuova star della moda. "Vivo a New York ma mi sento italiana in tutto e per tutto". Maria Carla Boscone, 19 anni, nuova star delle giovani top model si racconta a Verissimo. "Sogno una vita normale, fatta di tranquillita'. La popolarità non sempre aiuta a crescere con equilibrio".

I haven't featured the Mariacarla interview from GQ magazine Italian edition March 2004 issue. Click here to read an excerpt of this interview. Another interview with Mariacarla can be found at trendystyle.net. Click here to read the entire interview. Unfortunately, it's impossible to understand this unless you can speak Dutch (I can't!). Use Altavista to translate them. That's all for now. See ya later.

Mariacarla in a Vogue US editorial? Hmm, that's a very rare thing to happen, but it did happen... although only twice. The first was on the November 2002 issue meanwhile the second was on the February 2004 issue, in an editorial entitled "Madness, Mayhem, Rookies & Rivals". It's a lengthy editorial (31 pages long), featuring many different models posing with various important NY fashion people, all shot in a party setting by photographer Mario Testino. Mariacarla only makes one appearance, for the designer duo Mark Badgley and James Mischka.

You've guessed it. Yet another editorial with various models. This one comes from Harper's Bazaar US January 2004. Photographed by Solve Sundsbo, "Split Personality" is basically an editorial based on the works of Tom Ford (the former Gucci and YSL Rive Gauche designer). This is the opening picture, out of three. Mariacarla only appears here along with the other girls.

Left-to-right: Adina Fohlin, Ujjwala Raut, Liya Kebede, Marija Vujovic, Julia Stegner (who also appears alone on the 2nd pic), Tom Ford, Hana Soukupova, Mariacarla Boscono (the lady in red!), Elise Crombez, Tiiu Kuik, Daria Werbowy (who also appears alone on the 3rd pic).

Continuing the 'various models' theme, with this Escada advertisement. Most of us already knew that many models are currently being featured on the Escada spring 2004 campaign (for example, the Escada Sport ad features Marcelle Bittar, Anouck Lepere, Anne Vyalitsyna and Leticia Birkheuer). However, I don't know how many versions of Escada ads with Mariacarla are lying around. I only have two so far... the one with Liya Kebede and the one with Karen Elson (pictured now).

I would like to end this update with one small note regarding my Jeisa Chiminazzo website, which unfortunately was removed by the webspace provider since last week. In case you didn't know, I already had a site for Jeisa before I started this Mariacarla site. So it was where I began, although sadly it's no longer exist. I have no intention to bring the Jeisa site back online, but I felt obliged to give a plug to the Message Board: members5.boardhost.com/jeisachiminazzo. For now, this is the best place for you Jeisa fans. Be there.

Mariacarla in Alessandro Dell'Acqua perfume campaign for spring 2004. SO HOT! Thanks to Fabrizio for the scan.
