Mariacarla Boscono

May 21, 2003

Mariacarla is also featured inside the Italian edition of Max this month. Three pictures of the "Top D'Italia" article should be familiar to most of us because I've already featured them late last year. These are originally taken from photographer Micheli Civelli's personal portfolio, but they have never been published in any magazine until now.

It's good that these photos have finally seen the brighter light of day, but what we're longing for is a surprise or two. So, let's just get straight to the Q&A session between Max's Rosella Simone and our dearly beloved Mariacarla Boscono. It's a must read, let me tell ya! Click now for the English translation of this lengthy interview, done by Andrea who also provided the scans. Brace yourself, cos Mariacarla is gonna shock you with some of her answers!

The always "Ravishing" Mariacarla Boscono turns up in yet another issue of Vogue Italia (May 2003). It's her third editorial for Italian Vogue this year, and it's the second one with photographer Steven Klein. My thanks go out to Andrea for the scans as usual. Stay tuned for the next update where I'll be featuring an extensive interview with Mariacarla. Go to Max RCS's website for the preview and also for a standard story.

• Blast from the past! We're goin' three years back to the January-February 2000 issue of Harper's Bazaar Australia, with 3 scans from my Aussie friend Jolie. It was the period when Mariacarla spotted a short hairdo! Not her best era, but still better than most other models in their prime time. A model named Lucy Gordon also appeared on this so-called "Home Girl" editorial, which was shot entirely by photographer Martyn Thompson.

• We're having another flashback, with the two photos above. Well, actually they only take us to the event that happened three months ago. Mariacarla backstage at Bill Blass (2/11/2003) and Tommy Hilfiger (2/12/2003), during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2003 Collections in New York.

I'm taking you back to Korea for the fall-winter 2001/2002 advertisement of Mine. Please excuse the scan quality, cos these pics are just too good to be ignored. Do I have to tell you about how awesome Mariacarla is on this Korean campaign? I won't have to, since it speaks for itself! In the other hand, the fall-winter 2003/2004 section is updated with the addition of 18 backstage photos from Michael Kors, Cacharel and Helmut Lang shows plus 19 runway photos from Versus show. Samples for each show are displayed below. Click to get the entire set.

Return to the fall 2003 fashion weeks, and heading for the backstage! So far there are Anna Sui, Anne Klein, BCBG Max Azria, Bill Blass, Carolina Herrera, Diane Von Furstenberg, DKNY, Narciso Rodriguez, Oscar de la Renta in New York, Anna Molinari, D&G, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Gianfranco Ferré, Gucci, Max Mara, Missoni, Roberto Cavalli, Versus in Milan, Chloé, Celine, Lagerfeld Gallery, Sonia Rykiel, Viktor & Rolf in Paris. More to come soon.

Natalia Vodianova fans will be in for a treat cos we've got plenty of Nat (and her little baby boy Lucas too) here. Meanwhile 6 photos of Karolina Kurkova at Carolina Herrera are included although we could barely see Mariacarla there. Look to the background and you'll find her... bare. OK, I'm gonna leave you now with two scans from Jolie. These are the new Japanese spring 2003 advertisements of Barneys New York store and Chanel... kite?

• An editorial from British magazine 10 issue six (spring 2003), simply titled "Faces". Jolie came up with the scans once again. The editorial, photographed by Todd Barry, comprises of three black and white photos (one of Mariacarla Boscono, two of Valarie Sipp) and two color photos (of Mariacarla). Based on a theme of this season's make-up, which is being influenced by Marc Bolan, Kate Bush and also David Bowie circa his Alladin Sane LP. Mariacarla does look Bolanesque in the monochrome shot, thanks to makeup artist Patty Osmond. Get it on, bang a gong, get it on! For those about to rock, that's Def Leppard with an unplugged live version of Bolan's tune from his T-Rex days.

• A pair of Chanel ads for spring 2003, as seen on last month's Harper's Bazaar US. One is new to my site, one is not. The two scans are courtesy of Zob's World, Supermodels In The House that is. Check them both, while we are hanging around for more from this campaign. I'm still unable to locate those pics, though.
Mariacarla could also be seen on the Olivier sunglasses (by Valentino) campaign this season. We have to go to the Olivier stores to see Mariacarla in the poster and the reference catalog, because the campaign isn't being shown in magazines. It's somewhat unlikely to get the scans due to that. I haven't seen the pics either.

• Here is a very interesting editorial from Bergdorf Goodman magazine, spring collections 2003. Bergdorf Goodman is of course a famous department store in New York City. The editorial, "Unscripted", features 17 beautiful images of an Italian girl in an oriental background of Bangkok, Thailand. All photographs by Anette Aurell. The related "Bangkok: The Venice Of The East" article, plus the first page of the ed, is enclosed here. So many thanks to Yi for all the scans.

• This is the new editorial from the latest Vogue Italia (April 2003) that I briefly mentioned earlier. It was Andrea who helped me with the scans, as I already said before. What I haven't told you is that "Crackling Fashion" (photos by Deborah Turbeville) features not only one but two of my favorite models. Canadian model Marie-Eve Nadeau is also featured here. Yep, I do have an abandoned site for this Montreal girl in case you didn't know. I can see a bit of mismatch, but I don't care about that. Bring on the other girls soon! Jeisa maybe?

April 10, 2003

• The Numéro no.41 (March 2003) editorial, "Voltige" is finally here, with sooo many thanks to Jolie for responding to my request. It's been a long time coming, but it does worth the wait and it lives up to my high expectation as well. At first look, I can't help but think of the Self Service fall-winter 2002 editorial, "Dressing Down Never Hurts". No surprise there, because Karen Collins is the photographer for both eds. Just add a dash of sensualité to "Dressing Down..." and we have "Voltige", an excellent editorial that would sit comfortably alongside Mariacarla's other Numéro eds.

• This page is an article written by Stephanie Epiro for B+W Mode magazine issue 3, autumn-winter 2003. The article, "Italian Rogue" is all about Riccardo Tisci, the current head designer of Milan fashion house Coccapani. The third paragraph talks a bit about Mariacarla, who is a best friend of the designer. Now we all know why Mariacarla is the chosen one for Coccapani spring-summer 2003 campaign.
Click to read the text and to view Mariacarla in Riccardo's autumn-winter 2002/2003 collection. It's neccessary to feature the scan because I have never seen or found any photos from any Riccardo Tisci shows before. Oh, Jolie had also updated her own site, oddly enough called Jolie's Scans, with these and some other scans. Be there!

• We have left the fall-winter 2003/2004 pret-a-porter fashion weeks in New York, Milan and Paris behind for about a month. Now it's time to incorporate the coverage, which previously was located on top of this page, into the news and updates. I was working on it frequently between February 8 and March 21. Read the updates history and the performance schedule here. Go to the three galleries to view the latest Mariacarla photos from these events. All photos are courtesy of firstVIEW. I'm still missing Mariacarla's last four shows in Paris (Martine Sitbon, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche) and one Milan show (Versus), besides the backstage photos. As always, please let me know if you know any other missing shows where Mariacarla made her appearances.

Additionally, two photos of Mariacarla at Dolce & Gabbana men collection have just been added here in Milan fall-winter 2002/2003 page. She was not the only female model who appeared on this show, by the way.

• The Korean NAFNAF website, www.inafnaf.co.kr has a new look which is built around the spring 2003 campaign. My friend Andrea had captured the images from this flash-enhanced site for me, and now, here are the captures for ya (plus one mag scan of the ad). Mariacarla looks simply adorable! The last image, especially, is a perfect picture of just how angelic Mariacarla is. The girl is not on the Naf Naf campaign in France, but what we found in Korea is one hell of discovery. It came out of nowhere and blew away Mariacarla's international campaigns this season. In my opinion, this is absolutely the best Mariacarla campaign for spring-summer 2003. Bar none. So you wanna be her teddy bear?

• The cover of the Croatian edition of Gloss magazine (April 2003). Nothing more, nothing less. The picture
is originally a backstage photo from Christian Dior spring-summer 2003 show, taken by Cannonieri & Fortis. Of course this is not a properly shot cover, but still a worthy addition to the covers page. Thanks to Ivana for the scan.

• A couple of photos from Paris haute couture spring-summer 2003 fashion week. The backstage photo is taken from Vogue Korea (February 2003). Mariacarla had her fingernails polished for Chanel show. Scanned by a Korean friend of mine who runs the Mariacarla cafe (and Elise Crombez site), as usual. Meanwhile the runway photo is taken from Marie Claire France (March 2003). Mariacarla and Michelle Alves walking down the stair together at Givenchy show. This one is a part of "Magique Haute Couture", an editorial compiled by photographer Françoise Huguier during the event. The scan is supplied by our good old friend Cendres, of the Luciana Curtis, Gretha Cavazzoni and Ana Beatriz Barros sites.

• The DNA agency on a carousel in Bryant Park, New York. The picture, which was taken by photographer Leslie Kee, appeared on the January-February 2003 issue of V magazine along with pics of some other NY agencies. Follow this link at Supermodels Are Lonelier Than You Think to get the scans. Oh, the small pic has no connection except that we can also see the two buddies, Karolina Kurkova (not Natalia Vodianova... what a silly mistake!) and Mariacarla Boscono there. Andrea scanned it from this month's Italian Vogue. An editorial from the magazine will follow soon.

April 4, 2003

• A long overdue editorial, from the February 2003 issue of Harper's Bazaar US. Mariacarla Boscono and her beau Theo Volpatti in their "Most Romantic Moments", photographed by Richard Burbridge. It would've been perfect to feature this editorial on the Valentine's Day, but that wasn't possible because of one reason. Still, I want to thank Leon who has come back online and finally sent me the scans.

• The "Closet Queens": Mariacarla Boscono, Elise Crombez, Roos Von Bosstraeten, Hannelore Knuts; photographed by Michael Thompson. Special thanks to Gail for scanning this W (March 2003) editorial. Gail also gave me two bonus scans from Elle UK (March 2003). Mariacarla at Marc by Marc Jacobs (spring-summer 2003).

• Besides the Elle Beauty pics, we also have something called "International Chic" from the same Bazaar as above (thanks Leon). The whole ed is 19 pages and covers British, French and Italian style from past to present, with interviews of various designers. It's nothing important, but it's nice to see Mariacarla among those Italian women. Her pic was taken at the backstage of Zac Posen spring-summer 2003 show in New York.

• This editorial came from a past issue of the weekly Italian fashion magazine D. I have no information regarding the week of the issue, but it must be a 2001 issue due to Mariacarla's hairstyle. The pics are quite small but I used them anyway because it's impossible to find this item in a better quality. Not to mention that the ed itself, "Sixties", is rather forgettable. I got the three pics from the website of Jed Root, www.jedroot.com, on the portfolio of the makeup artist, Paco Blancas. The photographer is Stephane Sednaoui. The other model is Audrey Marnay.

• I already added four backstage photos of Anne Klein spring-summer 2003 show about six months ago, but I forgot to add the other three photos that I also found on the same source at the same time. I don't know why. Maybe I was too sleepy. Anyway, they are here now. Hmm, I wonder what was Mariacarla looking at...

March 21, 2003

• Mariacarla has just changed her agency in her homeland. From now on, the Milan division of Women Model Management is taking care of Mariacarla's career in Italy. The bio and contact pages have both been updated due to this change. Women's website http://www.womenmanagement.it/ is under construction but at least, Mariacarla is already listed on http://www.womenmanagement.com/index_MI.php.

• Let's get weird with the Valentino Roma (fall-winter 2002/2003), Coccapani (spring-summer 2003) and Chanel (spring-summer 2003) advertisements. This is the second version of the new Chanel ad with Mariacarla. A newer version does exist, featuring Mariacarla for Chanel sunglasses. Special thanks to Andrea who provided all the scans.

• Mariacarla is away on vacation at the moment, following the (exhausting) runway works in New York, Milan and Paris through out February and March. Three photo albums for the three cities have been finalized and now archived on the Style section. I still have several more pages to finish, which will include pictures from the more obscure shows. The progress report can be checked here, along with today's massive update of course. I'll be back...

March 3, 2003

• It has been nearly a year since the last time Mariacarla got a proper magazine cover (excluding the French revue de modes cover, mind you). She finally returns to the front page again, in the March 2003 issue of Vogue Deutsch. Photographed by Hervé Lafond, this is the kind of picture that only Mariacarla could pull off with ease. She still amazes me with this cover, despite the unjustified placement of VOGUE text across her face. Nice belly button, Mariacarla!

• The new spring campaign of Jean Paul Gaultier is out now. It features the same line-up of model (Mariacarla Boscono) and photographer (Jean Baptiste Mondino), just like the previous season. There's a male model on the JPG soleil ad, but there's no need to credit him at all. Hey, I'm jealous! This excellent advertisement is available on various March 2003 mags. These three came from The Face, Vogue Deutsch and Numéro, with thanks to Tom again.

• Mariacarla for the spring 2003 campaign of Michael Kors and also the breathtaking advertisement of KORS, a new fragrance by Michael Kors. Mariacarla shares the main Kors campaign with Karolina Kurkova this season, after having to share it with Carmen Kass during fall 2002. The first two are taken from Vanity Fair US (March 2003), meanwhile the last one is taken from Harper's Bazaar US (March 2003). Scans by Weslley.

• Two weeks ago I took few days off and went out of town just to search for French no.1 (autumn-winter 2002/2003), a great new magazine from France. The search was, unfortunately, unsuccessful. This is quite frustrating, due to the fact that I lost contact with a friend of mine who promised to look for the mag and scan the pics. My friend lives in New Jersey and Mariacarla's editorial is called "Homegirl New Jersey"... what a strange coincidence!

Five (out of eight) editorials in this issue are the works of photographer Thierry le Gouès. All the photos can be viewed here on his website. Feeling desperate, I decided to use the small pics as a preview anyway. It's not enough, especially because Mariacarla is more beautiful than ever on her two eds. I still need to have the high quality images for my site. Is there anyone else who could possibly help me with the bigger scans, or maybe with the actual magazine, please? I am willing to buy the mag, if it's the version with Mariacarla on the front/back covers, which are the same as her "Insolence" pictures. Please e-mail me about this. So many thanks for your understanding...

• A backstage photo from inside Elle UK (January 2003). The editorial consists of full page photos by Iain R Webb, shot in various venues. Mariacarla's picture was taken at the backstage of an autumn-winter 2002 couture show, sometimes between July 8-11 last year in Paris. She was wearing her own Marc Jacobs dress, and feeling pretty.

February 23, 2003

• Kors? MK? Michael Kors fragrance? Whatever it is, it's Mariacarla for the spring 2003 advertisement of Michael Kors. The photographer is not credited, but this looks a lot like the fall 2002 ad, which was photographed by Fabien Baron and also featuring Mariacarla as well. Several versions exist in the US mags. This one is scanned from Marie Claire US (March 2003), by Leon.

• Ah, she's lovely, isn't she? The photo is taken from MODELS.com's exclusive backstage coverage of Marc by Marc Jacobs show. Click here to view the full coverage, and don't forget to click here for more new photos from New York. The Milan fashion week starts tomorrow, so stay tuned for that...

• Mariacarla's latest editorial, "Closet Queens", can be previewed by clicking the image above. All photos by Michael Thompson, for the March 2003 issue of W. Please do contact me if you could help me with the high quality scans of Mariacarla pictures from this editorial. A lot of thanks in advance.

• A good number of us already knew that Mariacarla appears on the cover of Vogue Deutsch (March 2003). It's an amazing cover, if you ask. Anyone has the scan for me, please? Speaking of the Deutschland, I've just added a link to Mariacarla's agency in Germany, Place Model Management, to the links page.

• Two old photos of Mariacarla, photographed by Italian photographer Riccardo Bergamini during a show in Rome with Anton Giulio Grande. One pic is a past campaign of Anton Giulio Grande.
