Mariacarla Boscono

November 21, 2002

After a long delay, three new sections of the Fall-Winter 2002/2003 fashion weeks page are all online now: New York (February 8-15, 2002), Milan (February 24-March 5, 2002) and Paris (March 7-15, 2002). I'm still catching up, so please just let me know if I missed any shows, ok? As usual, all photos are courtesy of firstVIEW. Check 'em out now!

November 15, 2002

I've finally got the backstage photos of Mariacarla at Fendi show in Milan (September 27, 2002). This will be the last show added to the spring-summer 2003 backstage section, unless if I find more photos later.

I've also added some detail photos of various spring-summer 2003 shows. Go to the new page to view the newest additions. There are 41 photos in total, and some of them can be viewed above: Anna Sui (3), Bill Blass (1), Donna Karan (4), Michael Kors (3), Stella McCartney (1), and below:

The infamous Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche show in Paris (October 7, 2002). Even Natalia Vodianova and Carmen Kass also had to wear a similar revealing outfit for this show. Not only that, their nipples were painted blue as well. Love it or loathe it! Want some Nat? Click here now.

November 12, 2002

I have a big plan to add the photos from ready-to-wear fall 2002 fashion weeks, but due to some other commitments, the plan has to be postponed. As a teaser, check out Mariacarla in action at the Alessandro Dell'Acqua fall-winter 2002/2003 show in Milan (March 1, 2002).

We can finally read the transcript of the interview from the other video, which was featured for the first time on November 24, 2001 update. Thanks to Andrea for once again translating the interview. I still have no idea about the venue and date, though. It was a Milan fashion show, sometimes in 2001.

Sfilate - Mariacarla, one of the few Italian models who walk on the catwalks all over the world. A very beautiful and stylish woman but also embodies a different glamour.
Mariacarla - Well, "Italian" is important. "Very beautiful", there are a lot of them whether they're models on not. The world is full of beautiful women. Let's say that you should have personality for this kind of job. You should be a person with very much inner strength, because it's not easy: you travel, you live on an airplane, you rarely see your loved ones, who might be the family, boyfriend, dog or friends. So you have got to be very strong.
S - Which one is the aspect of beauty that pleases you more, that you like even more?
M - About myself or in general?
S - About yourself.
M - Well, honestly people may think that a model could be more self-confident because of her job, but it's not true. I think that, whether you are a woman or a man, you never get this self-confidence in your life and anyway it's human. And so I may say "your beauty" but not "my beauty". No. I consider myself a very pleasant person. Very ironic.

Two W editorials, taken respectively from the December 2001 and April 2002 issues. These images are previews only, because the high quality scans haven't been obtained yet. Some of the other missing editorials are Interview (April 2002), Vogue Deutsch (September 2001 & February 2002), Vogue Italia (June 2002), Vogue Russia (November 2001) and Vogue US (November 2002). Please help me!

November 11, 2002

I've just found out that the video featured yesterday was actually shot at the backstage of Lancetti fall-winter 2002/2003 show in Milan (February 27, 2002). Mariacarla did open the show, as told in the interview and of course, as seen on the photos.

Well, I won't be able to do this without my Italian friend Andrea who kindly translated the interview for me. Read the transcript now. C'mon... you wanna know what turns Mariacarla on, don't you?

The one and only Italian top model explains why she has succeeded to emerge and reveals what is her aphrodisiac plate: a secret, obviously, made in Italy.

Sfilate - But why did you succeed?
Mariacarla - Because I always believed in it a lot, I've always been determined and I had a lot of people supporting me and giving me a lot of strength, like her and like my family. And so, here I am.
S - You are going to open the fashion show. How do you feel when you open these shows?
M - Well, it's beautiful because the catwalk is yours. It's nice. But I don't know. I love anyway doing fashion shows, I like it very much.
S - But what do you think about when you are walking on the catwalk?
M - Anything. You don't think about anything when you are on the catwalk.
S - "I am."
M - No. You don't look at anything. You listen to the music. You have fun.
S - What is your obsession when you are in front of the mirror?
M - I don't have one. In my house in New York there is only a little mirror in the bathroom. No, I'm not vain. My boyfriend is more than me.
S - What is your aphrodisiac?
M - ...what might it be?... (the hairdresser: "can you say it?") ...I can't say it...
S - Come on, reveal it to us.
M - No, it's nothing. It's PASTA...

A new Mariacarla editorial could be found inside the fall-winter 2002 issue of European magazine Self Service. Once again, my great friend Takayu came to the rescue with these scans, exclusively for the Mariacarla site. Thanks mate!
"Dressing Down Never Hurts" was photographed by Karen Collins, who is also responsible for the photos of Mariacarla's Ungaro campaign. The model is credited as Carmen Maria, as you can read somewhere in the sixth picture. Screw this silly mistake. That charming girl is the one and only Mariacarla Boscono.

Maria Carla Boscone - L'unica top model italiana spiega come è riuscita a emergere e rivela qual è il suo piatto afrodisiaco: un segreto, ovviamente, made in Italy
Mariacarla talks! Still I'm blown away by the sound of her voice even though I honestly don't know what my Italian girl is saying there. This interview video was filmed early 2002 in the backstage of a Milan fall-winter 2002/2003 fashion show (Lancetti? Rocco Barocco?). Download it to your computer and then use Real Player to watch the video. The file size is approximately 1.26 MB. It's courtesy of sfilate.mondadori.com, just like the other video that I featured here late November last year.

The Pirelli feature is updated with a Mariacarla bio plus links to three videos! Scroll down below now. I also added two bonus pics to the previous update.

November 8, 2002

Back to the land of the rising sun, with some new images of Viva You. It just turned out that the photographer is Michael Sanders, who previously worked with Mariacarla on Dutch #39. The resemblances are obvious, and because of this, we have such a great advertisement! More photos of Mariacarla are supposedly used for the Viva You catalogue, which sadly enough, is not available here.

Special thanks to Takayu for the scans of Viva You ads. Not only those, he also sent me a scan of the brand new Versus campaign! Mariacarla posed with Dewi Driegen in this eyewear ad, which was photographed by Steven Meisel.

I'm updating the spring-summer 2003 backstage again. I have just added Gianfranco Ferré, Max Mara, Roberto Cavalli and Versus to the Milan section, plus Helmut Lang and Martine Sitbon to the Paris section. There are 56 new photos. Go find 'em inside.

Two bonus pics. The first pic is taken from Spanish Vogue website and it appears on October 2002 issue of the magazine along with more small pics of top models wearing their own winter coats. The Style section of this issue also has one full page pic of Mariacarla in a pink fur coat. I believe it's the same coat we see on the second pic, which is taken from the hair and make-up section of a Japan mag (possibly Spur). This page is filled with small pics from various fall-winter 2002/2003 backstages.

Mariacarla made a breathtaking appearance on The Pirelli 2003 Calendar! Three versions of the freshly released image are previewable right here and now. The first one includes a brief biography of Mariacarla, written in French. Need further details? Click here.

• This prestigious calendar was photographed by Bruce Weber on several locations in Italy. Besides Mariacarla, my personal favorites are Alessandra Ambrosio and Natalia Vodianova.
• The 'it' girl could only be seen on one picture, but holy crap, what an earth-shattering pic it is! It's so sweet to have her on the month of December, which is where my birthday at.... :)
• The making of the Pirelli Calendar 2003, in Windows Media Video:
Part 1 (8:01) Part 2 (7:47) Part 3 (8:04)
Please be forewarned that each video is around 7 megs. I recommend you to use a download manager such as GetRight to help you downloading the videos. Unfortunately, Mariacarla only appears for less than 15 seconds in part two! No interview. Her calendar picture is shown in part three.
• A launching party was held in London yesterday, but I was told that Mariacarla didn't attend it.

We are re-visiting the editorial from W (October 2002): "Bacchanal", by Fabien Baron. Mariacarla joins the tribal madness on eight out of twenty pages, and all of the images are finally available here (not just three as previously featured).

I'd like to thank my friend Weslley who helped me out with the scans. Wes is now working on a new site for one hot model that should be familiar to most of you. I am not going to reveal her name, but here's a hint: she shared an editorial with Mariacarla on another issue of W, few months back. You love this girl, I know.

November 1, 2002

OK, time for some killer backstage photos! To kick things off, I've got the photos from Alessandro Dell'Acqua, Alberta Ferretti, Antonio Berardi, Emilio Pucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Marni and Moschino shows, taken at the backstages of Milan spring-summer 2003 fashion week. Click click.

Even better, the Paris spring-summer 2003 fashion week backstage photos are also available now. So far there are photos from Balenciaga, Celine, Chanel, Christian Dior, Hussein Chalayan, John Galliano, Lagerfeld Gallery, Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, Valentino, Viktor & Rolf and YSL Rive Gauche shows.

Mariacarla at the Lancetti spring-summer 2003 show in Milan (September 26, 2002). Photos of the show's finale are included although we could barely see her there. Look again.

October 30, 2002

Various details, from the spring-summer 2003 fashion weeks in Milan and Paris, have just been added. There are 74 photos in total, and all of those are being displayed in new photos page (only on a temporary basis). I have selected the best ones to be featured in the frontpage.

• 5 photos from Valentino and 7 photos from Chanel. These were Mariacarla's two final shows in the last Paris fashion week. Guess what? Mariacarla will be on the spring 2003 campaign of Chanel Collection! My girl stays on top, eh?

• Left-to-right, and then moving one by one from the top to the bottom: Yohji Yamamoto (1), Fendi (1), Gucci (2), Emilio Pucci (1), Antonio Berardi (1), Missoni (1), Alberta Ferretti (2), D&G (1), Costume National (2), Lagerfeld Gallery (1), Celine (4), Helmut Lang (2), Jean Paul Gaultier (1), Balenciaga (1), Louis Vuitton (3). The bracketed number indicates the number of photos for a particular show.

October 28, 2002

Is this the part two of Mariacarla's fall 2002 campaigns showcase? Yes, but it has been trimmed down into a regular update. First and most... Mariacarla in torture for the Jean Paul Gaultier campaign, which was photographed by Jean Baptiste Mondino. 1st scan by Jim, 2nd & 3rd scans by Maria. Thanks!

Moschino, DKNY and Ungaro ads, scanned respectively by Jim, Maria and Leon. That's the DKNY coats ad, to be specific. My DKNY ads collection is not completed yet, because at least one image remains unavailable here. Other infos had been mentioned in part one, so I don't need to explain it again.

October 25, 2002

Let's get to the backstage of the spring-summer 2003 fashion weeks, starting with the New York shows first. Click on to view Mariacarla behind the scenes of Anna Sui, Anne Klein, Behnaz Sarafpour, Bill Blass, Diane Von Furstenberg, DKNY, Michael Kors, Narciso Rodriguez, Oscar de la Renta, Tommy Hilfiger and Zac Posen. Still awaiting for the Milan and Paris ones...

I was surprised to learn that Mariacarla is also in the fall 2002 campaign of U2 (not the overrated crap band). These pictures were taken from U2's official website, but now the sites, u2.com.hk and u2.com.sg, have changed the new season's pics. Damn, so I missed the catalogue again. I'd be very happy if anyone could make better scans for me. Please, the ballerina is just too lovely!
